An ISO shipping container is built to withstand harsh conditions whilst travelling around the globe. The shipping containers are made from cor-ten steel which makes them incredibly strong, and able to withstand damage during their movements on and off ships, as well as during transit.
Although ISO shipping containers are built to withstand a difficult life at sea, and can last longer than 20 years, they still need to be maintained to achieve this.
Container care and maintenance is extremely important, and necessary to obtain long life for your container.
Willbox are well equipped to maintain shipping containers, and having surveyors on site accredited to IICL5 standard, we can survey containers, provide estimates, and carry out repairs.
In order for containers to be approved for international shipping, and transportation whilst loaded, they require a valid CSC plate. Our staff will look at each container individually, and assess any damage it may have.
A survey requires us to lift the container of the ground, and check the underneath of the shipping container to ensure the cross members are in good condition. As well as checking the bottom of the shipping container, the sides, ends, and roof are also surveyed for obvious damage.
Once our surveyors have established that the ISO Shipping container is seaworthy, we can issue a valid CSC plate. The length of time the plate is valid for remains up to the surveyor. New ISO Shipping containers are built and fitted with a five year plate, however once this five year period has expired typically a 12 month or 18 month plate is applied.
Containers that are being used domestically for storage in the UK require a different type of care. Container care can include such measures as repairing rust damage that can cause leaks, as well as any faulty door gear; that can occur over time.
Willbox have a dedicated maintenance team who are ready to make repairs on steel containers of all types, at our clients sites. Our maintenance staff can weld damaged areas, replace door gear, and even apply graffo spray should you be having a condensation issue.
